I loved Domino. I will never stop being bitter about its shuttering. And being replaced in my subscription by that foul excuse for a magazine, ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, the magazine that might actually be Domino's exact opposite. So of course, I need to be "super excited" about Lonny. And I guess I am. Here are my thoughts.
First of all, I have to say that the cover is really dreadful. What's with the woman's hideous grimace? Did the baby just crap on her? And why the baby in the first place? It looks like it's going to be a cheesy mommy magazine with tips on how to change your baby's nappy. Also, the title, "Lonny," is truly awful. I get it--London and New York. London and New York are my two favorite places in the world, but "Lonny"?? It sounds like a 70s hooker with sub-normal intelligence.
So is it Domino's second coming? Well, there's gays, white people, single women with small pets, tablescapes, and smug makeup-less people in "light-filled" spaces, so in some ways, yes. Certainly the fonts, layout, etc. are quite inferior, but that's I suppose to be expected, given lesser funds. All that being said, it's certainly far better than any other American interiors magazine available. And it's free!
