The Mousse sailor sweater has a bright red houpette (pompom) pinned to it. The pompom is inspired by the houpette that is attached to the top of the French sailor's hat. It is said that touching the pompom on a sailor's hat brings good luck. The pompom was added to the sailor hat in the early 19th century in order to protect the top of the sailors' head in tight spaces!
